Settle in Estonia programme

Starting life in a new place is exciting! But it’s also a bit challenging. For your new adventure to turn out smoothly, the state has put together a comprehensive free-of- charge welcoming programme.

What is it?

The program consists of an adaptation course and basic Estonian language tuition (A1 level). The course is comprised of different modules – a basic module about the Estonian society, culture, state, rights and obligations, etc., and of complementary modules on work and entrepreneurship, research, studying, family. There’s also one aimed at children and young adults.

 

How long will it take?

The course will not take up much of your time. The modules last for 5-8 hours each and you can choose which ones to attend.[1]

 

Who can take part?

Any foreign national who has legally resided in Estonia for less than 5 years.

 

How to take part?

When issuing your residence permit or your ID card, the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board will inform you about the programme. If you received your residence permit or your ID card before 1 August 2015, and have resided in Estonia for less than 5 years, you can turn to the Police and Border Guard Board office to apply.
